"ONE" REIMAGINED BY AG & MILCK

OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO

I am so proud for this official music video to be the first creative collaboration of the Somebody's Beloved Project where we invest in artists to co-create social justice focused work that celebrates our universal humanity.

After leaving a major label deal and restructuring my entire team, I have space and freedom to find fierce clarity in my purpose. My team and I are embarking on a new chapter of creating art on our terms, while also innovating concrete channels for my listeners to direct energy and resources to activists on the ground.

A portion of the proceeds of this song are going to go to the Somebody’s Beloved Fund beneficiaries, as well as the creation, co-creation with, and investment in social change artists. Through song proceeds, brand partnerships, merchandise proceeds, and public donations, the Somebody’s Beloved Fund has directly contributed over $86,000 to date to the ten beneficiary organizations, and has helped to facilitate the donation of nearly $100,000 of essential product, pantry items and PPE including supplies and grant funding generously provided by Procter & Gamble (P&G).

Our hope is that the dance will move people to visit this site, and to learn about the 10 grassroots organizations that are working tirelessly to build power around racial justice and healing.

As for the dance itself- dancers that dance at this level of athleticism and artistic sensibility are channeling truth through their bodies. Watching Kylie and ET’s improv together reminds me that when we dare to invite others in on our artistic process, we have the opportunity to access a divine storytelling power that transcends words. I hope that when people watch this video, they can feel a sense of catharsis. I then hope that ease of tension will inspire the viewer to contemplate on how they can get creative and curious about participating in the journey of racial healing.

This will not be the last project where my team and I invest in artists to use their gifts to advocate for these 10 grassroots organizations. I hope people stay tuned via my socials or the email lists to find ways to get involved, or to get inspired.

"U2’s music saved my brother’s life and carried my family through one of the fiercest transitions we’ve experienced thus far. I have a deep reverence for Bono and Edge as their artistry has been etched into my soul for as long as I can remember.

When MILCK and AG first played me their reimagined cover of “One”,

I instantly had full body chills and couldn’t stop the tears from flowing.

I immediately had a vision of Matthew “ET” Gibbs and I improvising together while representing our two very different styles of dance, ballet and bone-breaking, to visually represent the message of the song, which is as powerful as ever almost 30 years after the original record was released.

It is my hope that this project will inspire other dancers and artists of all mediums to collaborate with one another and use their creative power and energy to help sew our divided world back together. If this video changes even one person’s life, all of the struggle and what it took for us to be here today was absolutely worth it."

"I was drawn to artistic movement expression at the age of 12 in Atlanta, GA. Dance became the main outlet for my thoughts and feelings. I faced many challenging circumstances that shaped my art today. Truly learning to value our ability to create and what that can do for yourself and others at a young age. It is my hope that I can impart these qualities and many others to like minded artists.

My favorite type of expression is "freestyle". This means that the world around you, whether it be the one you create or the one you inhabit, is apart of you and you it. Taking the time to feel and react in the moment. The purest response to life as we experience it."

“We did this in one shot and it was the very first take. The fact that Kylie and Matthew hadn’t danced together in such a fully improvised manner in years is a testament to their dedication and years of training. The way they intuitively react to each other and the music is very rare and the zenith of my attainment when filming dancers.”
